Day 64 (GVRAT)

I said yesterday that I was only going to do 10km tomorrow. I couldn’t keep to that. I grabbed 15km’s today. I had 13km to knock off to get myself into the 199’s. I believe I said I’d be there by Monday, I’m a few days early.

So Milo on our walk home today I came across a field mouse. He looked like he was in distress. I couldn’t tell if he was full grown or a baby. His ears weren’t pinned to the side of his head, and he had a lot of fur. His eyes though were closed tight. He was on his back, wiggling around. I thought he might have been caught on a weed, so I used my phone to roll him over on to his belly. He didn’t stay on his belly long, he flipped back over on his back. I didn’t know what else to do, I was about 6 houses down from ours. I came home, unloaded my running gear and went back to see what I could do to help. I stopped by Nana’s house and pulled a piece of cardboard from her recycling bin. I found him and tried to flip him again, he wasn’t staying on his feet. I managed to get the cardboard under him and gently placed him on the grass, at first he flipped over again, then with the support of some of the other grass I was able to get him on his belly.
Truth be told, I wanted to take him home to try and help. Nature can be cruel sometimes. Nana said that I could go back and check on him, but I told her, no. I did what I could do. I think it would have upset me more if I saw he didn’t make it. I’d like to think that by moving him into the grass and off the hot sidewalk, it gave him a better chance at making it.
Sometimes I think I’m too sensitive for this world. I want to help all living creatures.

Total distance today: 15.08km
Total remaining distance: 198.57km

Until tomorrow…
